How was your weekend? Mine was groovy. Saturday I hung out at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival in the Innova booth and chatted with quilters as they walked around. It is always fun to see the Hoffman Challenge quilts and the other exhibits and challenges. My friend Wendy won a First Place AND a Judge’s Choice ribbon on her quilt in her challenge. The picture did not come out or I would show it to you. đ
On Sunday, hubby and I wandered around the Denver Botanical Gardens. There were so many people there! We had no idea why until we asked. Ahhh- they have a Corpse flower and it was scheduled to bloom anytime- Sunday had been the estimated date of the bloom.
Do you know about these flowers? They are huge- and they only bloom about once a decade. When they bloom, they smell like dead meat, hence the name Corpse Flower. Here is a link to an article at USA TODAY on the flower. The Denver Botanic has a live feed camera on it- they called it the Stink Cam. Haha.
The other new thing we saw was the artwork of Deborah Butterfield. She makes these incredible sculptures of horses from wood that are then cast in bronze.
And of course, flowers. Lots of water lilies… so pretty.
And we have a winner! Sorry about posting a day late. Drumroll please…
The winner of the Quiltmaker magazine is Janet T! You will be getting an email from me this morning to get your mailing address.
I am off to go teach a hand sew quilt class at the Curtis Arts and Humanities Center. Â We are making a small project- a very cute scarf that I will pattern up and offer soon.
Have a great week! See you soon-
happy quilting,
Kate
