About - Kate Colleran Designs

Hi There

I'm Kate Colleran, a designer who creates quilt patterns, fabric and surface designs to brighten up your home and your mood! I want to welcome you to my world of color and quilts.

I create quilt patterns that are fun, a mix of modern and traditional and geared for the beginner to intermediate quilter.

I am drawn to bright colors, simple shapes and just want to create quilt patterns and surface designs that will bring a smile to your face!

Quilt Patterns

Seams Like a Dream Quilt Designs, started in 2003 as a collaboration between myself and Elizabeth Balderrama. I did the quilt pattern designs and Elizabeth did consultations, pattern testing and was the shipping maven.

We had such a great time; designing quilts for patterns, for quilt magazines, for fabric companies and for our book, Smash Your Precut Stash, with C&T Publishing.

In 2015 Elizabeth retired. In 2021, I changed the name of the quilt pattern line to match the official name of the business, Kate Colleran Designs, LLC.

My Philosophy and My Promise

From day one, our goal was to help you make a quilt. And to have fun! To me quilting is more than just making a quilt,
it is about being creative, about learning, about enjoying the process and being part of a community.

Whether you are a beginner quilter, an intermediate or advanced quilter, I want to help you.
My patterns will work with traditional, modern, brights… you get to choose the look of your quilt.

For you, the shop owner, you can sell my patterns knowing that your customers can make the quilt, they will have success and then they will be back for more! Repeat customers are more than just customers, they are friends.

Surface Pattern Design

A new direction! I am exploring surface pattern design. What is surface pattern design? It is creating artwork that will go on surfaces- like fabric, wallpaper, cards, notebooks and more!

I'm setting up shop at several outlets - look for me on Society6, Spoonflower and more!

Fabric

I have been working closely with Island Batik for a while and my new opportunity with them is to design my own batik fabric!

My first batik line, Paisley Got Mod, came out in fall 2022. So exciting!

And my first digital fabric line Blooming, with Suite B fabrics which is a sister company to Island Batik, came out in late summer 2022.

In the past I have had 4 Signature Fabric lines with them. That means that their in-house designer, Kathy Engle, designed the fabrics for me and I was the first quilt designer who got to play with the fabrics!
