Today on the blog I am sharing more about Misty Mornings, my new batik line with Island Batik!

Inspiration for Misty Mornings Batik
My inspiration for this line was (no surprise!) the Denver Botanic Garden. This amazing place is so fun to visit in all seasons. And this line was inspired by mornings spent there in early winter.
The cloudy grey blue sky, the blue green leaves of the few plants that had leaves, the red berries being feasted on by birds….
The colors of those mornings really inspired my color scheme as well as my images.
The Fabrics
There are so many fun fabrics in this line. From the main print with my saucy little bird with it’s upturned beak,
to the leaves and berries, the swirls…
The Quilts made in Misty Mornings batiks
I made 2 new patterns with the line and I love them both. First, you know I love a log cabin quilt!!
Log cabin style quilts are so easy to piece together but yet, so dynamic! And there are many different styles to a log cabin!
Kira – a modern log cabin
Kira (yes, named after my pup!) is a really graphic, slightly modern feeling log cabin quilt.
For the small crib size quilt, I chose the pinks and whites of the line.
For the larger lap size, I used the blues and rotated the blocks.
I also added a little bit more variation in the fabrics in the light side of the blue blocks and the rotation gave another element to the design.
Cassie – a star quilt
The next quilt I called Cassie, after a star constellation. I took liberties with the name!
Star quilts are always a great choice and this one is modern, bold and dynamic!
It is only 1 block but repeated 1 4 fabrics and then placed the colors on the diagonal for a striking look!

Kate-I used to absolutely hate batiks of any kind. I had no use for them for anything. But they say that fabrics and quilts are part of a journey. If you look at the fabric that I started with (antique reproductions, mauves, blue, gold) and compare it to where I’m at now (beautiful jewel tones and brights), you can actually see how I’ve changed personally. I would absolutely love to win your fabrics and be able to use them on my new machine. I especially NEED :>) to have the bright pinks with navy and blue tonals. Wish me luck! What a beautiful collection!
After living through Hurricane Helene, my husband and I frequently look up at the heavens at night and see Cassie – A Star Quilt looking back at us. I will make that quilt time and again to never forget the quilters’ struggles to replace machines, fabric and the quilting tools. Cassie is that quilty love only the stars provide.
I love these fabrics and the colors. It is not just for one season, but works anywhere.

I love these fabrics! We went to the Denver Botanical Gardens in April and they were absolutely beautiful! Would love to see this place in the winter. We were looking for shorts to wear in April when we were there, by the time we left Colorado we had sweated and been through a snowstorm in Red Rocks! Loved it, and I am a huge batik fan, so these fabrics are right up my alley!

These are beautiful batik fabrics and I would like them to make a landscape quilt. You can see the inspiration of the terrain they were inspired by. The colors are vivid. I hope they are as soft as they appear.
