Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks vol 13 Blog Tour- My Day!

May 3, 2016July 22, 2020 185 comments

Welcome to day 3 of the blog tour!

I am so excited to see you here on my blog. It is always fun to design a block for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks magazine. I usually just play around with ideas in EQ and then raid my stash for fabrics.

First up- the cover of the issue.

Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks vol 13
Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks vol 13

Look whose name is on the front!!! Wow! So excited by that.

Those who know me know I like blocks that create secondary designs or ones that can look different when you rotate the blocks into new arrangements.

Here is my block.

blue and green quilt block
Pinwheel Plus

I called it Pinwheel Plus because it makes a secondary design when you put the blocks together. Like this version.

blue and green quilt
Pinwheel Plus quilt

In this version, there are a few less blocks but there is some dark blue sashing that was added as well as a couple of borders.

dark blue quilt
Pinwheel Plus dark sashing

Or the sashing could be white.

Pinwheel Plus with white sashing
Pinwheel Plus with white sashing

Or the quilt could be made in shades of gray with magenta. Yum.

Pinwheel Plus in gray
Pinwheel Plus in gray

Not only did I change the setting slightly and the colors, but by using two shades of magenta in the pinwheel section, instead of yellow and blue, the pinwheels look different. You might see the 4 pinwheels first before the center one. Like the one below with the all yellow pinwheels.

blue and yellow quilt
Pinwheel Plus with double yellow pinwheels

Isn’t it amazing how you can change the look of a block by changing, not just the colors, but where the colors are? So many ways to personalize and customize a block. And I have only just begun to play!

There are so many ways to change the look… maybe move the dark blue to the edge of the block to highlight the center of the secondary design… or add a secondary color, like add some purple or red to the mix…

Have fun with this block! I would love to see what you come up with.
