Hi friends!
Are you ready for Block 6 Tree Farm Truck in our ongoing Jingle Bell Pines BOM Block Party?
I hope so! Because this is one of my favorites!
If you are new to the party, Kris Poor and I have been sharing tips about the blocks in our new block of the month quilt pattern Jingle Bell Pines! Click here to see the introduction post.
Block 6 Tree Farm Truck
The truck looks hard but really, while it is a lot of pieces, it is pretty basic sewing; nothing you haven’t done already!
And the truck looks great in our other backgrounds as well! I am not sure which one I like better! Here it is with the khaki background.
And here it is in the navy background.
Block 6 Tips
For this block, really the best tip is to be organized when cutting and label all your pieces. There are a lot of pieces similar in size to each other so finding a way to keep them straight will be helpful.
You could use sticky notes and label the different sizes. You could also keep all the fabrics of one color together so you can easily find the right piece.
We have put a handout together for you that you can download and print; it has a color guide so you can lay a piece of each fabric on it to remind you what each color is and what fabric you are using. The second page has smaller boxes that you can print and cut out to attach to your fabrics.

I find I like to do a little organizing first so I can easily find the piece and the sewing goes quickly. I like to lay them out by size in order and then label each size. I actually used one of my design boards to lay out all the pieces so I could move the board around but not lose the system. When you have a small area to cut, press and sew, you have to find ways to make things work without losing pieces!
How do you like to organize your fabrics when sewing a block like this? Do you have any tips for us? Feel free to put them in the comments!
Do you put all the pieces of one fabric in baggies? Do you just leave them in a pile and measure as you go to find the right piece?
The Pillow
This block also makes a super fun pillow. We have included the pillow pattern in the Jingle Bell Pines BOM pattern.
Be sure to check out Kris’ posts – I think she has a lot of helpful images for you.
Have fun and next week we will work on Block 7!
happy quilting,
Kate
Please note: we are not sharing any cutting information or sizes; you must have the pattern to make the block.
