I am about a week late posting, but here is my last Project Quilting quilt.
This challenge was Hurrah for Spring!
It was a little difficult for me to come up with something as so many of the quilts that I have done for
Project Quilting have been “spring like”.
Oh- are you looking for the giveaway post? Only 5 days left to enter! Click here.
So while I pondered the question all week, I kept returning to the idea of a spring, coiled ready to pop open. What could I do with that?
Finally, it was Saturday, the quilt was due and must be completely finished on Sunday and I had yet to start! Again! Luckily, it was snowing outside, so I wasn’t going anywhere. I decided that I would do a swirl of spring colors, one great big off set log cabin type block and then quilt a coiled swirl on it.
I wanted to make one side the brown dirt into the spring greens. The other side of the huge block would be the flowers- pinks, since I had not used much pink yet. The white square was a last minute addition to represent the spring snowstorm we were having!
Then I quilted my coil. I cannot believe I quilted the lines so close!
What was I thinking?
(But isn’t the back fabric cute? I think I made a dress out of that fabric for my daughter many, many years ago! Very “spring-y”!)
Luckily I used the cutest Aurifil pink thread in 40wt so it sewed beautifully and showed up nicely. The quilting better show up since it took a while to do!
A few leaves scattered about the quilt, blown about in the March winds and I was done. Viola. Just in time. Again.
Can you say procrastination?
Happy quilting,
Kate
I was wondering if you did free motion quilting to do the circle quilting or just exactly how you do that kind of quilting.
I love that piece!!!! It does sing spring!
Sandi,
Thanks so much!
I don’t know what the correct way to do the circle is, but what I did was to draw the beginning of a circle, and then just use the edge of the presser foot to keep going around. And around, and around…So I did not use a free motion foot, I used the regular machine foot.
Kate-
How big is your spring quilt? It is wonderful!
Sharon, I think it is about 28″ x 34″. Just a really big block!
