Creative Spaces Blog Hop Week 5- thread and buttons- oh my!

August 8, 2018July 8, 2020 10 comments

Hi friends!

Creative Spaces Blog Hop

I don’t know about you but I am loving be able to see how others store their supplies and I must admit to being a little envious of some of their spaces and stashes!

It is Week 4 5! and we are talking about thread and buttons and embellishment storage. My stash of these items does not require the same level of storage management as some others!

Thread. My one requirement is covered storage. I have mentioned before that I live in a dusty area. And dust is not good for thread. So while I would love to use one of those hanging thread racks, I store everything in bins and boxes.

Aurifil thread

I have a collection of Aurifil thread. Over the years at quilt market, I bought a few thread collections that came in these great boxes. Now I just buy new thread and add it to a box.

Some of the boxes are color coordinated; some aren’t.

Yummy colors!

Then I have a few other clear boxes; one for smaller spools and some different weights of Aurifil thread and one box for my spools of “other” thread.

I find that I primarily use Aurifil.

One, it’s great-thin, strong, not too linty.

Two, I can find it easily at my local shops.

As for buttons, well I don’t have a big collection. I have a small plastic bin with an assortment of buttons designed mostly for garments and bags and then this collections of buttons that might be used as embellishment on a quilt.

Button Box

I love that this box lets me separate the buttons by shape and color. So bright and fun!

Buttons!

So, how about you? Do you have a big collection of thread? How do you store it?

Next week will be our last week of the Creative Spaces blog hop. I hope you have been inspired to get into your space and find some new ways to store and organize your stuff. I know I have! Do you need the list of bloggers? Click here for my post listing the bloggers and links to them.

Where’s Kate?

Last week I spent 3 days hanging out at Fabric Expressions quilt shop in Littleton, CO. There was a quilt shop hop going on and I did demos of my templates; the Braid Template and the MINI Braid Template. It was fun!

Plus the owner of the shop,  Alison, used my Braid Template in her shop hop quilt! Pretty cool, huh?

Tomorrow I head up to Granby CO to speak to the Peaks ‘n’ Pines Quilt Guild. I will show some quilts ( how many suitcases will I bring this time?) and then we have a fun class scheduled on Friday. Will I see you there?

Don’t forget- I will be teaching a couple of classes and will be doing a lecture at AQS Quilt Week in Paducah this September. There is still some room in my classes so sign up!

I would love to see you there! Click here for more information.

happy quilting!

p.s. Did you see my interview with Jen Shaffer of Patterns by Jen? Since her Border Quilt Quilt Along has been delayed, she decided to post about each of the bloggers participating in her quilt along. Click here to go to her blog and see my interview and you can even check out the other interviews she has done. Fun stuff!

I like how you have organized your embellishment buttons. It would be a big improvement over my use of little ziplock bags tossed in a drawer. I’m on it!

      Hey MoeWest,
I used to use some baggies but I found them easy to lose! Glad you like the plastic bin idea!

I am finding my thread is too dusty being stored on racks. I’m searching for another option. The thread cases from Aurifil look awesome!

      Linda,
The thread cases are great but even just a plastic bin to get them out of the dust will help. Good luck finding what you need!

My threads are stored in matchbox plastic containers. It isn’t the perfect size, but works for now.

      Deb,
If it works, that is great! Finding something that works is what it is all about.

I like how you store your thread. That is how I’d like to store mine. I love all your cute buttons too.

      Sharon,
The Aurifil boxes area great way to store the threads. And it was fun starting with some of the collections as a way to grow my thread library!
