Welcome! I am super excited to show you Debbie Grifka’s new book, Lines by Design Quilts.
When Debbie asked me to be a part of the book blog hop, I had a hard time picking a project to showcase. So many fun designs!
I have always admired Debbie’s work and her Lines by Design Quilts book is no exception.
She breaks up the book into sections: Pure Lines, Squares and Rectangles, Diamonds and Hexagons, Circles and Curves and Pictorial.
For my Lines by Design Quilts project, I ended up picking Watermark from the Circles and Curves chapter. I had not done appliqué using bias tubes sewn into a circle before so this was fun! Debbie gives very detailed instructions on how to make these so, if you are a little curve/circle phobic, don’t worry- it was easy peasy!
I found some great fabric in my stash from Amy Butler – the line was called Midwest Modern. I picked it up years ago and never used it. It was perfect for this project!
What do you think?
I even did my own quilting – Debbie had followed the lines of the curves and I did something similar. I used the edge of my press foot to keep the lines about the same width apart. Not too bad!
Debbie and her publisher have offered a giveaway of a copy of her Lines by Design Quilts book to one of my readers! The giveaway is open to everyone; US residents will receive a physical copy of the book, while international winners will receive a digital copy.
I think I may have to make a pillow using the rest of my fabric. Don’t you agree?
Happy quilting,
Kate

Lines and triangles for me so far!
And I just signed up for your newsletter!
I’m a pretty new quilter, so I tend to stick with more simple shapes. This looks like a great way to try circles! So beautiful!

I love Watermark but I find circles kinda intimidating!!!
I love the circles! I’m hoping to win that pretty book 🙂 Thanks for the chance.
Triangles are my favourite shapes to use.
Also, I signed up for your newsletter. Thanks for the second chance to win.
I like your circle runner, but that pillow is really speaking to me. I would love to check out this book. Her designs seem to be ‘doable’.
I am a newly minted newsletter subscriber! Nice to be here!
Oh boy, I am definitely scared of circles and curves! But I love triangles 🙂
Ayeeeeeeeeee, curves ,run for your life! Just kidding they are intimidating but not as hard as you would think. Thanks for the chance!
I don’t currently receive your newsletter but would like to start.
I have primarily used straight lines but would like to try some circular ones too.
I am loving using geometric designs and straight lines which give a minimalist feel x
I am a bit scared of circles and curves, but I feel like I’m ready to tackle them and make them my own!
Kate, I really like your version of Watermark–and your quilting is way better than “not too bad”! I can sort of do straight lines and squares, but curves and circles–not yet. I’m really attracted to Debbie’s Slats pillows–we should both make some 🙂 Thanks so much for the giveaway.
I have just started using rulers for my machine quilting, and the straight lines look great with all the repetition. Thanks for sharing the giveaway!
I have not done circles, I guess because I love my rotary cutter. I really like to just cut, cut, cut. Thank you, peterstankovich@Comcast.net
I love making improv stripes which I use a lot in my work. I am not afraid of curves or circles! I made a flannel quilt using improv cut drunkard path blocks and it was a lot of fun!
I designed and sewed garments for many years so there aren’t any shapes that I can say “scare” me.But I can say that I like lines best in my quilting because they can portray so many geometric patterns depending what a quilter does with them.
I am mostly a square or triangle kind of girl… but I am hoping to learn to sew some curves this year!
I love circles and to make them with bias tape sounds fun. The Watermark runner is awesome in both the color ways!
I have done circular piecing but not applique. Looks like an interesting book.
Beautiful! This book looks amazing! My favorite shapes are triangles. Circles scare me a little.
I’ve signed up for your newsletter.
I love your quilt. Circles are cool.

I am a new subscriber to your newsletter! Love the mug rug pattern, thanks!
My favourite shape is circles for quilting but I do have circle anxiety when it comes to piecing or appliqué.
Love Debbie’s bias applique and will gladly add it in when I can.
What an exciting book! Lines and bias are so inspirational thanks to Debbie Grifka! These circles will be a great hit for sure.
Circles and curves scare me! I like lines or squares – wonky are probably my favorite – anything that’s not curves! 🙂
I love this watermark project though, the bias tape really is neat!
Normally steps and squares but lately I’m using a whole lot of triangles. Yes I must confess circles and curves still seem daunting to me.
I have been using a lot of hexagons.
I like how your quilting looks like ripples. I like curves the most!
I’ve signed up for your newsletter.
Yes, curves frighten me but I need to get past that.
Love the circles! Debbie always has such clean designs.
I love Debbies designs! I’m kind of on a circle kick lately!

HI, LIKING BOTH; PREFER THE CIRCLES+LOVE YOUR AQUA RUNNER! THANKS FOR SHARING IN THE BOOK GIVEAWAY!
I’ve hand appliqued 5″ circles onto squares, using mostly batiks, in light blues and beiges, for a queen bed quilt that is ALMOST ready to be quilted. It’s a very beach-y feel, great for summer!
I love using hexagons in my quilts, or triangles.
I receive your newsletter.
I most often quilt straight lines.
I have done circles on quilts before and love the effect. Thanks for the giveaway.
I get your newsletter! 🙂
I am afraid of curves, but am going to try anyways. Can’t hurt, right? 🙂 Love the circles!!
Love your circles! I would love to make those pillows too!
Your circles are amazing. I’m inspired to try.

Just signed up for your newsletter!!! Thanks for the free patter!!!!
I love the circles made this way. I have to try it!!!
Your version of Watermark, I think, is a shining example! I do enjoy the satisfaction of overcoming my fear and working with curves. After working with curves and circles dozens of times it still makes me nervous but the results are so so so delicious! Thanks for the chance to win.
I’m good with large gentle curves, but smaller curves still intimidate me. Thanks for the chance!
your runner is so very pretty. right now i only do straight lines. but i would love to learn to do circles and curves this year.

I haven’t tried circles yet but it’s actually my next project and I keep putting it off because I find them very intimidating. I love the design you chose to show us and that pillow… amazing!
My favorite is triangles, but I love the use of lines in this book. I haven’t tried circles yet, but I don’t think I’m afraid of them. I’d love to win a copy of the book, thanks for the giveaway!
I made some curved pieces for the first time this year! It was kind of scary, but I am thrilled with the results. I also tried bias tape appliqué, and that was different and fun. I’m not sure what my favorite shape to sew is. My current favorite block is a wonky star. I never get tired of it.
I follow you on BL.
I like circles and swirls. They are the easiest for me to make.
I love playing with squares, strips and currently curves. Would love to add this book to our Modern guild library. Thanks for the chance.
I love circles and curves!
I get your newsletter.
I do lots of paper piecing so I use many different shapes. I have used bias tape for applique stems before but this book looks like it goes above and beyond what I have imagined. Seems like fun!
I receive your newsletter via email.
I like triangles. Love your runner. Sewing bias tape circles onto a pieced quilt top is a great look.
Kate, I’m a newsletter subscriber already and I thank you for your inspiration. Congrats on partaking in the Blog Hop, that is a dream come true i’m sure.
Hi Kate, YES to the pillow. Loving the yellow slats. Now that looks like me…in answer to: straight lines or wavy lines are my favorite technique. Primarily I use a walking foot for those.
Just delving into my first “curved” pieces, using a Drunkards Path template. Lots of curve practice needed here. Thank you:)
I haven’t done any quilts with curves but willing to try.
I love lines and circles. Love the watermark and slat quilts showcased above.
Great book and the runners are fabulous.I piece anything but leave curves and circles for quilting.
I receive your newsletter.
I like circles and curves in quilts but I run when I see them because they are a little tricky for me.Curves scare me.
I have quilted circles several times, some are very measured, and others are organic. Love your table runner the fabric and the design are so good together.

Hexies are a current fave but I use lots of triangles too. Thanks for the giveaway!

I love your watermark quilt; you did a great job with the circles. I like to echo quilt with my walking foot too.
My favorite shape (at least right now!) is circles – I love them! Thanks for the giveaway!
I get your newsletter and love reading it.
Love your quilt! I use a lot of triangles but would like to try bias tape technique.
I get your newsletter and I love it! You’re designs are so original and UNIQUE!!
I love the CIRCLES because they are continuous!! I love your quilting too! Yes to PILLOWS!! Can’t wait to see them!!
This looks like the kind of thing that would give you the nerve to try something new. Not too large a scale, good instructions and an attractive outcome. It would be nice to add circles to designs more often.
I receive your newsletter.
Interlocking squares intrigue me but your table runner tempts me.
I love circles and curves in quilting! But I like all options, because I never know what may happen.
I receive your newsletter.
I prefer to use straight lines. In fact, I have a curvy quilt I started a while back that is pinned and waiting to be finished. Very scary thought since I am almost neurotic about matching up the seams.
I do get your newsletter.
I love the versatility of HSTs.
I get your newsletter.
Yes, veerrry afraid of curves. 🙂

Awesome quilt!! I am scared of circles…it’s me and rectangles!! Would love to try circles and curves!!
I get seamslikeadream newsletter and am very glad that I do.
Those bias circles really are effective. I’ve used alot of bias “tape” over the years, but never in a quilt. Next on my “to do” list! I actually like to piece curves. Not sure about favorite shape, right now I’ve been doing quite a few hexagons.
Would be wonderful to time. I am kind of nervous to try circles/curves. My favourite shape is a hexagon.
