Hi friends!
How did you do with Block 2 in our quilt along project? Are you ready for Block 3, Ostara, in the Adventure in Color Quilt Along?
I hope so!
Luminous Quilt Along Project Block 3
Block 3 in Luminous was named for Ostara, the Germanic goddess of spring. She represents growth and rebirth after the long winter.
While she is celebrated at the spring equinox and we are not quite there yet, she is kind of perfect for this quilt along project block at the beginning of March, as the weather shifts from winter to spring. Or at least we hope it does!
The Blocks
In my block 3, the bright yellow seems like rays of sunshine poking out from the block. Kind of like the sun poking it’s head out after winter, starting to warm us up and move us closer to spring.
Tammy’s block is like the dusk in early spring, maybe a hint of color can be seen, like the light green of the grass but still cool and a little monchromatic.
Tips on the Block Construction
For this block, we are using some of the same units we used in Block 1 and Block 2- HSTs (half square triangles) and QSTs (quarter square triangles). Last week, Tammy and I did blog posts about QSTs so if you missed them, click here.
Just like when I make HST units, I like to oversize my QSTs and trim them to size. It works for me and you may find that while yes, you have to trim, then they are perfect and any little oops while you were sewing can be fixed! I trim my QST using the same tools that I use for the HSTs.
Ideas on Color for the Luminous Quilt Along Project Block 3
While we have a set list for the colors in this quilt and we tell you where to put each color, you know you can always do your own thing! You could move the colors around if you want, especially depending on the feeling you want with your block.
For this version of block 3, I switched where the yellow and the purple colors where in the block. The block no longer has the sun rays peeping out- they are now bold swatches of purple.
In this version, the center of the block looks like a yellow sun!
Which is your favorite? I bet you can guess mine since we know which one ended up in my quilt!

I store mine in a 4″ glass jar with a tight lid.
Lovely block! as a longarmer, I would love the Jumbo Bobbinsaver.
I’d love to have the regular one. Thanks for the opportunity!
I have been thinking about buying these for my M bobbins so that would be wonderful.
I love the original coloration. Thanks for the giveaway. The regular bobbin holder, please.
I would love the new Bobbinsaver Squared. I have maxed out my round Bobbin Saver and have some bobbins in the old style plastic bobbin boxes where the bobbins roll around and threads come loose and tangle. Thanks for the GIVEAWAY!
I don’t own a Bernina so the regular Bobbinsaver Squared is the only one I can use. Maybe you will come out with one for M bobbins?
I would like to win the Bobbin Saver 2. I currently store my bobbins in a small bobbin box that came with my Kenmore sewing machine.
I like those bright colors! I would like to win the bobbin saver for regular bobbins.
Great coloration possibilities for the blocks. thanks for the chance to win the bobbin holders, either would be nicer than the hard plastic case I now have.
Bobbin saver 2 is my choice.
Thanks for the beautiful block!
These blocks are so beautiful. I love to save all my bobbins in an easy to view bobbin storage ring. But one is not enough!! I have several because I love to try to find the right color of thread and use the same on the bobbin!
I would love to win the regular Bobbin Saver! Love your blocks too!
Lovely blocks! And I love the Bobbin Saver sizes! Thanks for the giveaway!
I’m most certain the Bobbin Saver 2 would be the best, smaller to carry around to classes and such.
Lovely blocks in bright, cheerful colors. I would love to win the regular bobbin saver 2. Good luck to all.
That’s a great block. Choosing one of the three is difficult, because I like all three, but I think I would make block 3. Thanks for the chance to win a bobbin holder from Grabbit, and thanks to them for sponsoring and offering one. My bobbins are stored, but in several different places, and I always have to look for half an hour to find the one I need. I would like to have one of these to get them all in one place!
Wow would love this on my sewing table
The Jumbo Bobbin Saver would work for me. My Bernina 820 bobbins fit the jumbo.
I have 4 of the round bobbin holders…I use a domestic machine…BabyLock
The block is gorgeous! Love the bobbin savers too.
Forgot to answer the question! I have one of the circular bobbin holders but I have too many bobbins to fit in it! Should I be lucky enough to win I would choose the Jumbo version.
I would love to have either of them! I have two plastic boxes with felt lined holders that my husband ordered from Amazon. They’re awesome holders, especially for travel, but these open versions would be nice to have in the drawers of my cabinet.
Count me in for Bobbin Saver2 as I use a plastic container which has a broken lid.
Loved your demonstration of what happens when we move some color choices. I want to get more free with color choices.
I have a newer Bernina with the bigger bobbins, so the Jumbo one please. Thanks for the giveaway.
I would like the Jumbo Bobbin Saver, please. Thank you for the great blocks!
The BobbinSaver 2 for regular bobbins would be great. It is nice to see the different color versions of the block!
I’m behind, but I’m still having fun. I’m doing Tammy’s coloration and loving it. My Granddaughter is loving it as well.
I love Tammy’s block coloration.I am just drawn to it. I would like to win the smaller BobbinSaver.
I would like to win the JUMBO BobbinSaver2. I am using the drawer of a small plastic set of drawers to store my bobbins.
I would love to win the Bobbin Saver 2. I am using old hard plastic bobbin storage boxes.
