Hi friends!
Over the last few blog posts, I have been using a new fabric line to show my step-outs and blocks. The fabric I have been using is called Painted Blossoms by Island Batik.
Painted Blossoms is a wonderful collection designed for me by Kathy Engle. I just love these colors! The pinks, purples, aqua, teals and the wonderful swirls of color all inspired by the paintings of Van Gogh.
The line also has rich dark fabrics that can add that dramatic touch to a quilt. I designed 4 new quilts using the collection as well as recolored 2 quilts using it.
Today I will share the recolored quilts- both are precut friendly!
Woven In
Woven In is a 10″ square pack quilt. You could use yardage but those 10″ squares make is super easy! And that purple sashing and border fabric really makes the blocks pop and feel rich.
I chose to use a yellow for the sashing squares and middle border but it would look just as good with an aqua, or a pink, or….
I liked how this came out so much I decided to revamp the cover of the pattern using this version.
And I updated the pattern to my new booklet style!
Lighthouse Steps
Lighthouse Steps is another favorite quilt pattern that needed a fresh new look. And man, did it get a great new look!!! It even made the cover of the fall Island Batik catalog!
I LOVE, LOVE, love how this quit came out. And because it looks so good, I thought maybe I should use it for a Quilt Along! I will post more about the quilt along soon, but know these things.
The Quilt Along will be free to participate in BUT, if you want to make the quilt, you will need to purchase the pattern. I will have the updated pattern available soon as both a paper pattern and a PDF pattern.
This quilt uses a strip set! I will even have a few Painted Blossoms strip sets available for sale next week!
The Quilt Along will start March 5th and run through April 9th. There will be 5 posts and, I hope, a few goodies to give out along the way! You can sign up up here to get the notifications for each of the posts. The posts will contain tips on making the quilt and I will be making the queen version!
I will have more about the Quilt Along posted here on Feb 5th.
Tote That!
I also made a new version of my large tote using my Tote That! pattern.
The tote looks really sharp and I love how much it can carry!
Four New Quilts!
I will share the first of the new patterns using Painted Blossoms here on Feb 8th. Then over the next month I will slowly be showing off the other 3 new quilt patterns I made using the new batik line Painted Blossoms. In the meantime, enjoy some sneak peeks of them!
I don’t know about you, but I am so looking forward to spring this year. I am hoping that soon I can get my vaccine and then travel to see my kids. I miss them!
Plus, spring always makes me smile! The light green of the new leaves, the soft colors of early spring flowers, the flowering trees that smell so wonderful when I walk past them… hmmmm.
These fabrics seem to remind me of spring with their pastels mixed in with the rich colors.
See you next week when Tammy and I share the story behind one of our our new collaboration quilts, Novalie! You can click here if you missed the first post about our new starry skies quilts!
happy quilting,
Kate
