Hi friends!
I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for new quilt and sewing pattern storage ideas.
Pattern storage is an issue for many – but especially for pattern designers! We need to have a spot to store the patterns we sell.
Plus, I need to have a spot to store the patterns I buy.
Yes, I do buy patterns! Quilt patterns, sewing patterns…. more than I will probably ever make. To me, they are like coffee table books, inspiring to look through and dream! Though occasionally I get around to making something other than my own designs.
Some people store their patterns in sheet protectors and place them in notebooks. I do this primarily for my PDF patterns and many of my knitting patterns. But it works for the smaller patterns too!
Practical Quilt and Sewing Pattern Storage Ideas:
Bins are a popular way to store patterns – either plastic or cardboard bins. I used to have some cardboard bins that were perfect for sewing patterns. But they got damp and fell apart.
Another way is to store them in hanging files in a file cabinet.
Below is newest plastic bin I found! It is meant for storing greeting cards and it is the perfect size for storing quilt and sewing patterns!
I love that the bin comes with 6 adjustable dividers; it helps to keep the patterns organized and upright. In my other bins, the patterns flop down if the bin isn’t full.
I’m thinking I may have to organize them alphabetically. And get a few more of these bins. I would be so organized then!
What about you? How do you store your quilt patterns? Let us know in the comments!
happy quilting!

Who makes the greeting card bin? This would work perfectly for me.
Susan,
I should have mentioned that! It is called the Card Keeper from Iris. I found it at the Container Store when it was on sale. it may also but at the hobby shops.
I do love it!
