Fun and Functional Sewing Room Decor Ideas!

May 15, 2020December 8, 2020 2 comments

Hi friends!

Last month I shared a couple of posts about my sewing studio and how I have been really trying to clean it up. I am so happy with how it is coming along.

Project Baskets

My set up of baskets for projects is working out well… except for recently, when I suddenly had “squirrel!!!!” syndrome and added another new project to the mix.

And had no basket for it.

So it ended up on the cutting table.

Sigh. I don’t think I can ever fix that. Adding another project to the ever growing pile is just something quilters do. Or at least, something this quilter does!

But the quilt top is done and off to the quilter!

Recently, I went thru all my fabric bins and really cleaned them out. I was able to donate a large amount of fabric and still have lots left to play with.

Fun Sewing Room Decor

Now it is time to decorate the studio a little!

I may have mentioned before that I don’t have a lot of wall space, but I do like to add a few fun pieces to the little bit of wall I do have.

On the wall near my cutting table, I have had this quilt little hanging for a while. And my design wall always has new and different things on it!

Over in the corner I have these fun decorations. I change out the little quilt often; sometimes I have one my small banners hanging from it that represent the season.

Right now the small quilt I have there is Harbor Lights– one of my patterns.

It’s perfect to celebrate Memorial Day and 4th of July! I won’t have to make a change to the wall or my little table downstairs until after that! Little quilts are a great way to add some flair to your sewing studio decor!

Another way to add some fun but functional decorations to my sewing space, and yours, would be to make some sewing organizers!

I asked a couple of my designer friends for their favorite pattern to add some functionality with flair and here they are:

Sew Organized

This is Joanne of Fat Quarter Gypsy’s newest pattern called Sew Organized and already it is a top seller!

Wouldn’t this be a fun thing to make for your sewing area? Click here if you want to check out her pattern.

Scalloped Baskets

And my friend Kris of Poorhouse Designs has this great pattern for scalloped baskets!

I would love to have one of these on my table near my sewing machine to catch all the little tools that seem to wander.. my awl, my small snips, my “Jack” the ripper…..

TV Time Pincushion

And who doesn’t need a cute new pincushion? My friend Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis  has this cute pattern for wool retro tv pincushions.

Aren’t they adorable??? I really have to make one of these..

Do you like to make decorations for your sewing area? What have you made?

Be sure to share all about your sewing room decor with us in the comments. I am always looking for fun new projects!

If you’re just getting started setting up your first craft room, there’s something even worse than clutter that can stop you in your tracks… a very empty room! How do you even get started if you aren’t sure what you’ll need or where to place the first shelf?

Ali from Cut, Cut, Craft! has reverse-engineered 11 cute craft rooms so you can understand why a well-organized room is laid out the way it is, and how to do that yourself with the rooms that inspire you.

Her best advice: imbue your room with your own personality, make it a room that only YOU could have created and let that inner genius shine on through!

happy quilting!

      Kathleen,
That would be awesome, wouldn’t it? I may have put the idea to Tammy in the hopes she works on that. fingers crossed….
