Hi friends!
Today is the Day! Tammy and I are going to show you the Adventure Quilt … a Road Trip Quilt!
When Tammy and I first talked about doing a quilt along together, we wanted the quilt to be a skill builder and to have a story behind it. We had already started doing posts together that we called Adventures in Quilting with Kate and Tammy.
So a quilt named Adventure Quilt seemed just right.
As we talked, proposed blocks and started designing, a theme emerged. It became a quilt that represented a road trip across the US. OK – it’s a stretch, but you can sort of see it. Right?
Let’s start in the upper right, along the beach in the northeast seashore. Follow the arrows and head to the southeast, along the coast with more water and warm, tropical colors. As you move across the quilt, you come through the mountains and forests (wave Hi to me as you come past the Rockies!!). And finally arrive at the beach on the west coast.
It’s time to hit the road! So come with us on a quilt journey. You will be working on blocks, some that may be familiar, but in a totally unique setting. During the quilt along, there will be tips and tricks, giveaways and more. It will be SEW much fun!
We love how the quilts came out. Tammy made hers using these yummy batiks from Island Batik’s Foundations line. She used a light blue for the background fabric.
I used a rainbow of Moda Bella Solids for my quilt with a soft white for the background.
To start this party we have a General Information handout for you which includes fabric amounts so you can start pulling fabrics for your quilt. We used 24 Fat Quarters (FQs) and the cutting instructions for each block are based on using FQs for all the colors and yardage for the background fabric.
8 green FQs- a range from very dark to very light green
6 blues- 4 in a range from light to dark and then 1 turquoise and 1 teal
3 purples- a range from light to dark
2 reds- a medium red and a darker red
2 golds- a light gold and a darker gold
3 corals- a range from light to dark
Amounts for background and backing are in the General Information handout. Click here to download the PDF.
We also have three Color Charts for you; one Color Chart lists the fabrics and has spaces so you can fill in the colors of the fabrics you pick. I cut out pieces from each fabric and glued them to the chart.
There are a lot of greens; it’s really easy to get confused about which one is which so this color chart helps!
The other 2 Color Charts list the fabrics Tammy used and the fabrics I used in case you like what we picked. Click here for the PDF list of the Island Batik fabrics and here for the list of Moda fabrics.
OH- and we have a Fabric giveaway on Instagram! If you are on Instagram, head over to my account at @seamslikeadreamquilts and follow the Official Rules to Enter for a chance to win one of 2 Fat Quarter bundles- one lucky winner will win a bundle of Batik FQs and another winner will win a FQ bundle of solid fabrics!
