Hi friends!
It’s time for a sneak peek #1 in my January Block Remix!
The January Block
Just as a recap, this month, we are working on the block called Alabama Variation. We have challenged ourselves to remix the block and create a new block! Last week we shared the original block and our fabrics.
My Remix Process and January Sneak Peek #1
I started working on the design and wondered, how will I remix this? Let’s analyze the block; it is an 8 x 8 grid.
I wanted to keep the changes fairly simple. I have done some crazy stuff in the past! First I played in the center of the block, breaking down the center into more squares. And the center could be a 4 patch. But I kept looking at the center and thought, if this was a 9 x 9 grid, I could have a smaller square in the center. Like this!
So that is how I started the remix- crafting a grid and playing with the center.
Sneak Peek #1 in my Fabrics
Then I colored it using my fabrics to see how I would like it in the blues. Hmmm.
Not bad but what happens when the blocks are put together into a quilt?
The Quilt with Remix #1
I like the chain through the center of the block but once I put the blocks together in a setting, it was just OK. Simple, fun but not quite what I want.
For those of you who know me, you know I love when blocks create a secondary pattern when they come together.
So more play was needed! I can’t wait to show you next week what happened next.
See you next week for Sneak Peek #2!
Happy quilting!
Kate
p.s. Did you see I am teaching on a second quilting cruise? This one is in February of 2025!!!
