I have been really having fun making quilts for the magazines; it is often a chance for me to try fabrics and colors outside of my usual choices, and then I find out that I really like them. Do you find yourself choosing pretty much the same colors for all your quilts? Or variations of the same?
One of my latest quilts is called Autumnal Glow and it is in the McCalls Quilting magazine Sept/Oct issue. Since it is the fall issue, I had decided to do a fall quilt. I love the fall, so I wanted a quilt to reflect the beautiful colors seen at that time of year.
Though, to be honest, I am not ready for fall just yet. A little more summer first, please!
The fabrics are from Northcott and I think it came out great. I love how the center of the quilt just glows.
Earlier this week I did say I would do a giveaway. So here it is. I have a couple of the McCall’s Quilting magazines to giveaway.
Would you like one?
To be entered for a chance to win a copy of the magazine, leave a comment below and tell me what is your favorite part of fall. I think I love the season because of the colors- the changing leaves are just spectacular. And the air is crisp, the sky so bright blue some days…
Contest is open to US and Canada readers (sorry, shipping overseas is a bear!) and will close on Sunday August 9th at 9pm (my time).
Contest is closed- thank you to all who entered!
In the meantime, I will be at Fabric Expressions in Littleton, CO on this Friday Aug 7th and Saturday Aug 8th at 10am to do a book signing and demo. If you are in the area, stop by and say Hi! Friday afternoon, I plan to do a little Quilt Shop Hop-ping with my friend Wendy. Maybe we will see you on the road? Click here for the details on the quilt shop hop.
Enjoy the rest of your summer… we’ve still got lots of summer left!
happy quilting,
Kate
P.S. Next week I will show off my latest quilt in Quiltmaker magazine!
P.P.S. If you really like the Autumnal Glow quilt, McCall’s Quilting has kits available. Click my affiliate link here to go the their site and search for the kit.
My families apples are the best thing about autumn. A real great treat!!!
I love those fall colours!! My favorite thing about fall is the weather. NOt to hot or cold. Walking in the trees is.crunchy under your feet. vision is far between trees. It is a super time for hiking. The kitchen has smells of canning. Sigh.. definately my favorite time of year!
I love the cooler weather and colors !
I love the scents of autumn–fires in fireplaces on cool nights, leaves breaking down underneath wet boots.
I love the cooler temperatures when you can open the windows and let in the fresh air.
I live in Texas and when fall comes along it finally starts cooling off outside. I love the different colors of leaves in the trees. The fall colors are my favorite colors for quilting also.
I have always loved Fall but I look forward to it each year now because we’ve created a family day where our children and their children come to visit and we spend the day apple-picking, taking family photos and having a casual meal together before we, the parents, head for Florida for the winter!
I love the fall for all the bright colored leaves and crisp breathable air.
I love the cooler weather, the changing leaves and that all the birthdays in my family happen in fall.
My favorite thing about fall is being able to turn off the air conditioner and open all the windows and doors and just breathe in all the fresh air! I love the time when no heat or air is needed and the house can “air” out. My house is very high in the back and with all the windows and doors open and a slight breeze, I can see all the beautiful trees, hear all the birds at the feeders and have the feeling of living in a treehouse!
Pork Roast, fresh applesauce, roasted potatoes and pumpkin pie.
Fall….beautiful colors, although we don’t get to see nearly as many down here in Texas. When I lived in Washington state for a few years I relished the chance to see so many different colors in the trees. But like many of us in the hot South, I am always happy to have a break in the heat as the Fall season comes along. I would really enjoy winning a copy of the new McCall’s Quilting magazine, as well. It would make a great gift on my birthday on Sunday. Nice timing. ??
I love canning the harvest I get from my garden…makes the house smell so good and the jars look spectacular on the shelf in the pantry, shining like jewels. The blue of the sky is the best in the autumn, but I dread the cold of winter coming and the need to be dressed in layers and layers of clothes all the time! I’ll hang on to summer just a little bit longer!!!
I love the cooler weather and the changing leaves. I love to decorate with pumpkins and mums on my front porch, and all the cinnamon-y baking is fun, too.
I love the weather cooling down!
I love bonfires and pumpkin pie! The changing colors of the leaves.
I love the crunchy leaves. Love their colors.
I would say the wonderful oranges, faded greens, burnt reds but this year I am going to say the cool weather. It is hot, hot, hot here.
I, too, love the colors of fall. Outside my front door is a Japanese maple which glows in autumn (see what I did with your quilt title?). With so many trees in Pennsylvania, the fall foliage coloring is spectacular. And with fall comes cooler weather, just perfect for hiking in the woods. Hopefully you will pick this post for your McCall’s drawing because I really want to make your Autumnal Glow quilt! Sandy at sewhigh.blogspot.com
