Hi friends!
Today is my day on the Island Batik Back to School blog hop.
When I think about this time of year, it brings up so many images. School books. Notebooks. Pens. Pencils. Leaves changing. Apple picking. Pumpkins.
So when thinking about the quilt I wanted to make for this blog hop, I had those things in my mind. And that lead me to my quilt pattern Autumn View, one I designed years ago for a shop hop. It has leaves, apples, pumpkins, a school … all the things you think of this time of year.

The line I got to play with is called Sour Apple. It has such fun colors- blues, greens, golds…
Here are a few of the prints.
Aren’t they great?
So I pulled out the pattern. I knew I wanted to make a smaller wall hanging. Something fun to hang on the wall during the days of autumn.
I had to include the schoolhouse- but since there is not a red in this line, the little red schoolhouse became a little blue schoolhouse!
I made the schoolhouse block bigger and then made leaves, the pumpkin, apples… stitched around the appliqué shapes…
Once I had the blocks, I needed to figure out a setting.

I like how the smaller blocks are off set around the enlarged school house block.

Now you will notice the quilt is not quilted. So technically it is not done. I could have quilted it; done a quick job, a little stitch in the ditch to “get it done”. But I really love how this quilt top turned out and I didn’t want to rush the quilting. I want to think about what I will quilt and where.
I may also add some stitching to the appliqué leaf blocks and the pumpkin block before I quilt it.
So what do you think? Like it?
I am going to bind the quilt with 2 fabrics using a piped binding. Do you ever make this type of binding? I think it will look perfect on the quilt. I made some just so I could check it out and see if it looked good.

Looking good I think!

I so love the fabrics you got to work with..great quilt too boot…
I really like both and what a great binding.
I love the piped binding!
I love how your quilt turned out, and the two-color binding is perfect.
A lovely block. I’ve never tried piped binding – must find out how to do that
Love your quilt! Your appliqué is amazing!
wow both of your quilts are gorgeous. I don’t blame you for waiting on quilting the second top. I would also want to make sure that it is just right for the pattern.
I love the idea of the two color binding. How is this done? I would love to try it.
Love “Sour Apple”. That binding is a perfect finish too!
The two color binding is my favorite. Easy to do it all by machine too.
Love it. It’s a great design with these fabrics, and great colors.
Beautiful quilt, love the colors in it, also. This was a great hop! Thanks to all who made it possible. (And thank you for the pattern.)
great quilt, and fun binding!
Very awesome quilt! Love the binding choice! Thank you for sharing! Enjoy your day!!
Wow, I love this quilt! The colors you used make your blocks pop! Do you have a pattern for this? Thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.
It’s really beautiful! I love the way you placed all the blocks.
Such a beautiful quilt! I love your little blue schoolhouse.
Wow, it’s really fabulous! I think the non-traditional fall colors and the unique layout make it interesting and beautiful. I agree that you shouldn’t rush the quilting just to get it done.
