Day 9 Smash Your Precut Stash Book Blog Tour

April 30, 2015July 28, 2020 110 comments

Book CoverToday is the last day of our book’s blog tour!

Thank you to everyone who has followed along and entered the giveaways! Good luck to you all.

For today’s post, first I want to tell you a little about our book, though you have gotten some great information from all our wonderful bloggers.

We also have our giveaway and a great tutorial for you at the end.

The book is all about using up those precuts that we all have lying around.

FQ Favorites1Remember that day you went to the quilt store for one project and came home with a charm pack? We would bet that you had no idea what you were going to make with it, but it was just too stinking cute to leave behind!

Or, how about the day you saw that adorable stack of Fat Quarters all tied up like a present with a bow and found it too irresistible to pass up?

Stash

We wanted to help you turn that stash into quilts! And our book will help you do that; we have 13 projects for fat quarters, 2 1/2″ strips, 5″ squares… stash busting projects!

For fun, I asked Alyssa and Elizabeth to answer the 5 questions we gave to the bloggers.

#1. What color do you have the most of in your stash?

Alyssa: Aqua! Green is probably a close second, but I love all shades of aqua, so there’s a bunch of that in my stash.

Elizabeth: I probably have the most blue but definitely have a bin of polka dots – they are soooo fun!

#2. What is your favorite precut to use or what precut size do you have the most of in your stash?

Alyssa: My favorite precuts are charm squares and mini charm squares. I have a ton of the mini 2.5″ size, because that is what I cut all of my scraps to when I have leftovers from my projects.

Elizabeth: My favorite pre-cut  ( or more importantly – have the most) is a FQ.

#3. What is your favorite pattern in the book?

Alyssa: Eep! I have to pick just one?? Okay… Hmmmmm, even though I made versions of the Bella quilt and the Bits ‘n Blocks quilts, I think Picturesque is my favorite. I kinda have a thing for flowers 😀

Charm Quilt, Picturesque

Elizabeth: Love the Dance Party quilt.  The quilting has enhanced the movement of the pattern.  Can’t you feel yourself swaying to the music?

FQ quilt

#4. What quilting notion would you like to receive on your birthday?

Alyssa: Needles! I never remember to get more needles for my machine when I am out, so that would be a perfect present for me.

Elizabeth: I really want a rotating cutting mat; I have for years.

#5. Show us a picture of your favorite FQ in your stash that you want to use to make the project from the book,  My Favorite Fat Quarter Runner.

Now, how about a free tutorial? Here is a cute project to use some leftover 2.5″ squares and a couple of Fat Quarters.

A Charming Clutch!

Isn’t it cute? Originally the book was going to have 1 more project, a fun Hobo bag. But we ran out of room. Since that hobo bag was too complicated to give as a quick tutorial, and Alyssa wanted a clutch… that is what we did!

Here is the one Alyssa made…

and the one Elizabeth made…

Instead of a full tutorial here, I created a PDF. So you can download and use whenever you are ready! Click here to get the PDF.

Now onto the last of the book giveaways in our blog tour:

Leave a comment below to be entered into the drawing to win a copy of our book. Maybe you could tell us which precut is your favorite to use!

Want an extra entry? We will give an extra entry for anyone who leaves a second comment telling us they signed up for our newsletter or already get our newsletter. You must leave a second comment to get the extra entry.

Ok- you can also get a third entry if you go to our Facebook page, go to the top of the page and Like our Facebook page! Our page is up to 500 likes- let’s see if we can get a few more! Leave us a third comment telling us you already “Like us” on FB or just liked us! You must leave a separate comment to get the extra entry.

Winners within the US will win a hard copy of the book and winners outside of the US will win an ebook.

The contest will close on Sunday, May 3rd at 9pm my time. Good luck!

We can’t thank you enough for following along and to all the wonderful quilters who blogged about our book. We are so honored!

Happy quilting,

Kate

p.s. Today, Friday and Saturday I am going to be at the Denver National Quilt Show hanging around in the Innova booth. Come say Hi! if you are in the area.

p.p.s. Don’t forget- Monday May 4th I am also doing a blog post as part of the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks vol 11 blog tour. The tour runs all week. More prizes!

Absolutely love fat quarter towers but a bit pricey. So to collect all of one fabric line I’ve decided charms are fun and affordable.
Looking forward to adding your book to my library. It was pleasure chatting with you at the Denver quilt show yesterday. Good luck with your new book!

I like to BUY fat quarters or layer cakes but I hate to use them, I would rather use charm packs and jelly rolls. The others I just want to have around. They are my addiction but I think my hubby is getting a little suspicious, fabric goes into the sewing room but the output does not equal input. Thanks

I feel the same way about needles! Even when I have a list of which ones I need I still gravitate to the fabrics and run out of time before getting to them or completely forget about the needles!!! I love most pre-cuts but I think FQs are my favorite – they give me a little more fabric to rub my face on the ones I love so much that I hate to use!!! LOL Thanks so much for all the chances to win 🙂

I don’t have a lot of precuts other than FQs mostly because I’m never quite sure how to use them (or I buy the fabric before I have a specific project in mind!). I would love to get some fun ideas from this book on using other precuts (charm packs are just so cute- and affordable!)- thanks for the chance to win!

My favorite precuts are layer cakes.

Love the answers. Especially the one about always running out of machine needles. You have inspired me to give them as gifts to all my quilting friends.
