Hi friends!
I wanted to share more about my new Chalk Hill Blue quilt pattern!
The Design
I originally created the quilt pattern for a line of fabric from QT Fabrics. I thought it went really well with the line but unfortunately, they didn’t choose if for that line. Oh well. That’s the life of a quilt pattern designer. Some things get accepted, some don’t.
But…. they did like the design and they came back a little while later and asked me to try it in another line of fabric. And ta -da! That version was a winner!
They even sent me the fabrics so I got to make the cover quilt!
The Name Chalk Hill Blue
You may be wondering where the pattern’s name came from. Well… the original fabric line had butterflies in it so I looked up names of butterflies and found Chalk Hill Blue. I thought, that’s a fun name so that is what I called the pattern.
And it worked even with the new line as it ALSO has butterflies in it. And blues. Well teal which is kind of blue/green. Which was a huge relief that I didn’t have to come up with another name.
The Fabric
The new fabric line I used from QT Fabrics was called Dahlias at Dusk. A really neat mix of teals, oranges, florals, stripes and plaids.
And yes, butterflies!
The Quilt Pattern
What I really like about the pattern is the ability to create different settings. Because the blocks are broken into 2 sides along the diagonal, you can rotate them and change things up!
This is the EQ version of my cover quilt.
Plus, because I used a few different fabrics for the larger triangles, You can put them together or mix them up!
Here is the organized version of the colors.
The Blocks for the Chalk Hill Blue quilt pattern
I really like this quilt block. So many fun ways to play with the fabrics. I even like making the HST units. They went fairly quickly since I had them all marked up and then I chain pieced.
And since the blocks are all the same, just the large triangle fabric is different, it was easy to keep thing moving! Vroom!
The Quilting
For the quilting on this quilt, I chose a design that has, wait for it, butterflies in it! Of course I did!
And for the thread, I went with a soft white. I often pick a color, or a variegated but for this quilt, the white just seemed the perfect choice.
I hope you have fun making your version of Chalk Hill Blue. Click here to see the quilt pattern!
happy quilting!
