Hi friends,
Today I want to share projects that used pieced strips in a braid from my book Patchwork Braids!
That was a mouthful!
The Book
If you haven’t seen my earlier posts, I have been sharing bits about my new book with C&T Publishing called Patchwork Braids.
The book highlights different ways to use a braid as well as different styles of braids. I cover a basic braid, braids using squares and braids using strips of varying widths. You can click on the different styles and go to the earlier blog posts.
In this post, I will share about the projects using pieced strips.
Using Pieced Strips in a Braid
There are many ways to use pieced strips in your braid! I just share a few options in the book. First is this fun table runner called Zinnia.
The braids were built from strips that were 2 rectangles sewn together.
I just love how this came out!
Piecing strips differently
The next project uses strips that were pieced together along their long edges and then cut into braids using the Mini Braid template. This method gives you 2 different braid pieces- ones with the white fabric at the top of the braid and ones with the white fabric at the bottom of the braid.
For the project, I created these 2 pillows- each one using one set of braids! They are so fun! Can you see the difference in the braids in each pillow?
I had a hard time deciding what fabric to use for the binding on the pillow tops. Often, I use a binding to give that extra pop at the edge of the braid. For the binding, I chose a solid yellow-green color from one of the prints. It added an unexpected color and really emphasized the other colors.
The Quilt
The book has so many fun quilts that I love for all different reasons. But this next quilt, well, it is generally a favorite! The quilt is called Pink Impression and it also uses pieced strips.
I also created the quilt using fabrics from the Best of Ombre Confetti Metallics fabric line from Moda fabrics and the ombre meant every single flower was different.
I sooo love this quilt!!!!
Have you been enjoying seeing all the different quilts and projects using braids? Braids aren’t just a one trick pony; they can be made to look different – just using your imagination!! If you are excited to get going on making braids, click here to check out the book!
Next month I will share the last quilt from the book. A wonderful sampler quilt that uses all the techniques in one garden of a quilt!
happy quilting!
