Hi friends!
Today on the blog, I am talking about our latest block challenge; to remix the Old Maid’s Puzzle quilt block .
If you missed last month’s Shoo Fly block remix, click here!
The Old Maid’s Puzzle Quilt Block
The block is a basic 4 patch block, with a set of HST units (my fav!) and then a larger half square triangle. It’s a fun and fairly easy block to make.
So what can I do to mix it up?
The Remix Plan
I wanted to make a small wall hanging and have some elements that created a secondary design. You how I LOVE a secondary design!
I usually add elements to my blocks to remix them rather than take away. I guess you could say I am NOT a quilt minimalist!
The Fabrics
For the fabrics, I decided to raid my stash of solids and tone on tones.
Kind of a crazy color palette but I was really having fun with the plan!
The Units
I started with my HST units- I had a few different ones to make.
Then I moved on to the paper pieced blue sections.
Don’t you love the gradation of blues?
The new Old Maid’s Puzzle Quilt Block and quilt!
And ta-done!
Meet the Willow block! Here is how I designed it in EQ.
And here are 4 blocks together in a quilt!
I am very happy with how it came out and I even used up fabric leftover from another quilt backing for the back.
So it was all from my stash!
Now don’t forget to check out Tammy’s Block remix! She is always so clever. Click here to see her block.
happy quilting!
