Meet new pattern #3 – Meander!

Meander - a quilt pattern designed by Kate Collleran

This is such fun quilt and to be honest, the design was a bit of an accident! As you can see, there are 2 backgrounds in the strip blocks- in the cover quilt I used a solid white and a blue print.

 When I was first working on this design, I printed out the quilt to show someone. There was only one background. My printer, which had a tendency to dump spots of color or fail to print correctly, made some of the blocks in the center of the quilt lighter in color.  And after reflection, decided it was better that way!

So I went back to EQ and played around with 2 backgrounds instead of 1. Now the blocks with the second background seem to meander thru the center of the quilt.

I love this quilt- it uses fat quarters and is so fun to make. The cover quilt uses fat quarters from Kate Spain’s line Grand Canal for Moda and this quilt below uses a brand new line from Michael Miller called Front Yard by Sandra Clemons.

I am still binding this one.

 And the binding is from the fat quarters- don’t you just love a scrappy binding?

And the quilting Crystal did is sooo cute! The design is leaves but don’t you think they look like bunny ears?

This adorable baby quilt uses a bunch fabrics from my stash that I put together, not just one line of fabric.  You can easily mix and match!

Funny, I made this quilt back in the spring as a gift and one of the background fabrics I used was little elephants. I sense an animal theme to my quilts!

  117. Absolutely fell in love with the Meander as soon as we met.
    It just shows there are no mistakes in quilting, and your printer just showed a happy variance.

    I can honestly say I had never seen Kate Spain’s fabrics, at least that I could identify. Have I been missing out. The Fat Quarters are gorgeous.
