New Quilt Pattern: Peakview

June 23, 2021September 20, 2021 2 comments

Hi friends!

Today I want to let you know that my new quilt pattern, PeakView, is finally ready to publish!

Top US quilting blog and shop, Seams Like a Dream Quilt Designs, shares about her new quilt pattern PeakView!

It is a triangle quilt and I have mentioned it in a few other posts in the past. I have been meaning to get the pattern out for a while and now it is done! Woo hoo!

Triangle Quilt pattern

I love triangle quilts. It is so fun to see what you can do and what pictures you can create with triangles. I have used them a few times for quilts in magazines. PeakView was originally a quilt seen in Modern Patchwork magazine. They called it Mountain Joy.

The design started as a study in transparency and the quilt ended up looking like the mountains I see out the window of my sewing room. It was quilted with straight lines going in different directions.  I love how that reinforced all the different triangles.

For my new quilt pattern, I decided to add a crib size. So fun! A crib quilt should be fun, interesting but also quick and easy to make. Once you get the hang of sewing the triangles, this quilt is all of that!

I have this cute baby version in blues and greens and one in pinks all cut out and ready to sew. I can’t wait to make the pink version! It keeps getting bumped for other projects but it is on the list to make next month. we’ll see what happens!

Tammy and I just had a recent post in our Exploring the Basics series on triangle quilts. If you missed it, click here.

Getting a new quilt pattern ready to publish

There are many steps to getting a new pattern ready to publish. If I am starting from scratch, meaning it has not been in a magazine before, once I have the design and the colors, I start to write the pattern. First it is usually on paper by hand.

While I design in EQ, I figure out my own fabric amounts using a formula that I follow every time. That way, I stay consistent! Once I have my handwritten notes, if I have the fabric, It is time to make a quilt!

After the quilt is made and off to the Longarm quilt for her to do her magic, that is when I try to fix any errors, read my notes that I made while piecing the quilt and hope I understand what I meant! Then it is time to put the pattern into the computer!

Once I have typed the instructions, created all the diagrams and then reviewed the pattern, it is time for it to head to an editor! I usually use 2 editors. That way, any errors not caught by editor #1 hopefully will be caught by editor #2!

Then, it is back to me to fix all the errors.

I hope to have another new quilt pattern out in the next month as I have a whole list of patterns to write!
