Paisley Got Mod – new fabric, new patterns and a giveaway!

October 5, 2022October 10, 2022 270 comments

Hi friends- are you ready to see my new, very first batik fabric line, Paisley Got Mod???

I am so excited to show this to you as well as quilts I made with the line and quilts friends of mine made with the line!

Looking for the fabric giveaway? Go to the end of the post for details!  Giveaway closed! Thank you to all who entered!

Paisley Got Mod

How did I start designing this line? Well, many years ago, my daughter and I talked about trying our hand at designing fabric. And we played with a paisley shape. So I guess that idea has been in my head for a while.

But while the idea of a paisley shape was the inspiration, I wanted it to feel more modern and not have all the fancy loops normally seen in a paisley line. Hmmm… so what could I add to the basic paisley shape?

I decided to add shapes seen in quilting- circles, triangles, hexies and flowers! So I drew a few simple shapes and started to play with them in the computer to create more interesting shapes and patterns.

The Colors for Paisley Got Mod

The inital color scheme for my line was huge; I love color and I had lots of photos I used for color inspiration- basically I made a mood board!

Top US quilting blog and shop, Kate Colleran Designs, shares about her new batik fabric line, Paisley Got Mod.

I sent in my colors and plan and waited for the results. SO many colors; I got carried away.

Once I had the fabric strikeouts in hand, it took a while to create a good mix of patterns and colors. A little light… a little dark… I had never done this before and it was so fun to play with all the options. I wanted all the colors but in the end, I had to narrow it down.

Here is the final mix of fabrics!

The Projects

Next up- decide what quilts to make! I had been wanting to update my pattern Crosscut– a fun, easy braid quilt using a strip pack or pack of 10″ squares.

I love how this version came out!

Next the line needed a new pattern!. Finally I decided on a pineapple quilt block because, well, I have always wanted to do one!

Here is the lap size quilt of the pattern called Always Welcome using mostly the blues and greens in the line.

I am in love with this quilt! That pop of pink with the blues and greens just makes me smile!

And of course, I HAD to make a Pack it Up! bag! I love these bags and I make them all the time in various sizes and in various fabric lines.

Other Designer Projects

Here are a few of the other designer projects.

From my good quilt buddy Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis- her quilt Rotation– it’s so unique!

And because she is cool like that, here is the pattern in a dark version.

And from my friend Annette Ornelas of Southwind Designs – her Blooming Stars quilt!

From the great quilter Nancy Scott of Masterpiece Quilting her quilt Paisley Strip Star, with her dog!

A project from another quilty friend Kris Poor of Poorhouse Quilt Designs– her Moroccan Star quilt!

And guess what I have?? A tuffet made for me by Sharyn Cole of Tuffet Source!!!

I’m fascinated by the way your new quilt has an almost blurry, Monet look to it when seen from a distance, but is crystal clear up close. This would be a great pattern and colors with which to play. Thank you for the chance to win some FQs. I hope this will be in the stores soon!
