Hi friends!
How are you? Do you have any big summer plans?
I just got back from another trip to CT for another family funeral. That makes 4 family funerals in 6 months. I only made it to 3 of them as travel is not always possible at a moments notice.
But it made me very aware of how quickly time passes. Not that we don’t all know that but somehow, the deaths of so many loved ones so quickly empathizes the point!
SO, I have been thinking …what do I want to do this summer?
Summer Plans
Are you a summer lover? Or is fall or winter more your thing?
I do love summer and the ability to be outside more than in winter. Of course, that works here, for me. It may be different where you are depending on temperature!
So I have made a list of what I want to happen over the summer.
First
See my kids. I have been able to see them more this year (at funerals) but now I want to spend some fun time with them!
Second
Spend time near the water, with the waves lapping and just recharge. I LOVE, LOVE LOVE being at the shore. And now that I live in CO, it is not something I do frequently.
So that is my plan for my summer vacation. Spend a few days at the shore.
Oh- and maybe hang my beach quilt!
Third
Spend more time outside. One thing I love here in the Denver area is the Botanic Garden. One of my other very happy places.
I love going early in the day, before the summer heat rises and the crowds arrive.
Fourth
Take weekends off. This may seem obvious, but, having a creative business where you work from home, it is hard to turn it off. You are always at work. So I plan to turn off the some of the work and try to enjoy weekends again. Or at least, work less on the weekends!
Fifth
Work on a quilt project for me, not for my business. When quilting becomes your business, you sometimes start to forget why you quilt. When all your projects have deadlines, have patterns that need to be written or have to be accepted (or rejected!) by another company, it is easy to get overwhelmed.
So I am going to look through my UFOs and other projects and see what would make me happy to create. No deadline, no pressures, no pattern to write!
Blog Summer Plans
What might my plans of rest, relaxation and seeing family and the beach mean here on the blog?
I am skipping a few weeks of blogging this summer! For June, I am still working on plans for the next 2 weeks’ posts.
And for the end of June, I already have post plans for June 29th and 30th. What you say? Why 2 posts in a row in one week?
June 29th will be the June Block Challenge remix post and on June 30th I am participating in a blog hop for a new batik fabric line.
July 6, 13 and 20th I will be taking a summer break and will be back on July 27th for our July Block Challenge Remix post. In August I will be posting every other week.
In the meantime… it’s time to relax, enjoy the sunshine and I’ll see you next week!
happy quilting!
Kate
Did you miss reading about last month’s Block Challenge Quilt? I really like how it came out! Click here to read more.
In several religions, one day a week is set aside for no work. In my family there was a “rule”, every stitch you take on Sunday, you will take out with your nose!!!! in th afterlife! Sometimes we need someone to tell us to take family time, personal time. I so enjoy your blog, and quilts, and stories. Thank you.
Thank you Joan- we all need a reminder to take a little time- for ourselves, for our family and for fun!
These are wonderful goals for the summer… I hope you accomplish all that want to, and more!
Thank you Vivian- that is so sweet!
