Hi friends!
It’s time for the May quilt block reveal! Yay!
The May Remix Challenge block
This was a fun challenge because the block is so iconic. A flag. Really a simple rendition of the American flag.
So how does one remake and remix? Do you ignore the symbolism and just play? Do you try to just give a fresh new look while keeping to the basic structure?
My Fabrics
I decided to keep to the basic structure and colors of the original block. I thought that, in some ways, ended up making the challenge harder; hard to give it a unique spin.
My First Variation
This is the first remix of the flag quilt block.
I shared about my choices in my first blog post but ultimately, I decided to go another way.
My May quilt block reveal!
This is my new remixed flag quilt block!
Nothing dramatic but I like how the star block has angled edges. Gives that area a fun shape.
And here is what it could look like as a quilt.
Or you could rotate the blocks even more and get this version.
What do you think? Do you like my new version of the Flag Block?
Naming my new block
Every block this year is getting named after a street I have lived on. I really debated this one but settled on Nutmeg Hill because (and this sounds terrible) but it sounds like the name of a battle! The Battle of Nutmeg Hill.
If you would like to make a version of the block for yourself, the block pattern is available on my website. Just click here to go check it out!
happy quilting!
