Hi friends!
I was searching thru my bin of red fabrics the other day looking for ones to use for the red and white blocks I am making – click here to read about the #christmascountdownsewalong- and I found these!
A whole bunch of holiday HSTs all made. For what? Who knows why I made them or what project they were supposed to be for but I thought it’s time to use them!
So I took 8 of them and decided to make make 2 pot holders. Easy peasy right?
I sewed 4 of the HSTs together into a pinwheel. Then I added 1 ½” strips of a red around the edges as a border.
I could have left the border off but I like my pot holders a little bigger rather than smaller. Then I found this fun fabric for the back in my stash!
I cut a piece of Insul-brite ½” smaller than my pot holder. And a piece of batting. I cut them smaller mostly because that was all I had of the Insul-bright but also it reduces bulk in the seam allowance.
Then I quilted them using my spiffy new Baby Lock Sashiko machine.
Love this thing!
A little binding and ta da!
A present for the holidays is all done. Just because we are quilters doesn’t mean we have to make quilts for presents. Small items can be so appreciated- especially if they are pretty and useful!
I wonder who will be getting these cute potholders?
I still have 24 HSTs left. Hmmmm…. what to make next?
What small handmade item do you like to give at the holidays? Give us some suggestions in the comments!
happy quilting,
Kate

National Quilt Museum
Back in September, while in Paducah at the AQS show, I was lucky enough to go on a private tour of the National Quilt Museum. They invited the AQS instructors and it was wonderful to get a chance to see the museum and get a backstage tour!
Right now is their big fundraiser and if you ever considered donating to them, here is a link to see what they do to promote quilting and why they need donations. Click here.
