A time for reflection…

December 27, 2017July 29, 2020 10 comments

Hi friends.

It is so hard to believe that 2017 is almost over. I think we all say this, probably every year, but really, where did the year go?

And I think most of us, if we can take the time from the crazy busy holiday season, like to take a few minutes to reflect on 2017 and contemplate 2018. It is the time to set those goals for 2018!

I saw a post about this (link at the end) and so I decided to look back on my blog posts of 2017 and pick 5 to remember the year by. It was hard to pick 5- what were the most significant?

This past year I tried to do a lot of collaborations with quilty business friends and so I am picking 2 of those posts to share again.

#1. – My post with Leah Day. I loved collaborating with Leah- she is just a very sweet, generous and down to earth person. And I got a chance to use my Braid template and Island Batik fabric from my friend Jackie Kunkel. Such a win win for me! Plus I now have a quilt quilted by Leah Day!

#2.- My post for the Piece and Quilt blog hop–  the book is by Christa Watson and I used fabric from Michael Miller designed by my friend Sandra Clemons. I love this quilt! Maybe because of the colors, or the fabric, or the design or maybe because I quilted it all myself!

This past year, starting in February, I was an Island Batik ambassador and what that meant was I had to create a project each month based on a theme using their wonderful batiks.

#3. The whole year of being an Island Batik ambassador was great (my last ambassador post will be in January) but I really liked the post from the Back to School blog hop. I got a chance to play with my pattern Autumn View and tweak it. I love the colors of the quilt- such a fun batik fabric line. And, it sparked a new project which I will tell you about at the end of the post.

Autumn View

A post about Quilt Market, which is always so inspirational, and my favorite new pattern of the year.

#4. My post about fall Quilt Market and introducing my new bag, Pack it Up! and the great pattern/template bundle. I LOVE this pattern. I have made so many of these bags and I am so excited to teach the bag again at AQS in Lancaster In March.

And last but not least…

#5. A sentimental post about the loss of my sweet kitty Lily. Well, she was not always sweet- she could be feisty and cranky and quite noisy at 3 am which made me not too happy with her but I still miss her her furry little face every day.

Ok. A small summary of the very busy, fun year we have spent together! So many other fun things that went on including giveaways, quilts in magazines, the sugar skull blocks…

What’s coming in 2018? Well, remember a few paragraphs ago I mentioned how the remake of my Autumn View quilt sparked a new project?

I was chatting with my friend Alison who owns a local quilt shop here called Fabric Expressions and she wondered if I had a project she could use for her Saturday Sampler for 2018. I showed her Autumn View and my remake and …. well, it ended up with me totally redoing the quilt. I sort of used the setting I created in my remake and a few of the original blocks tweaked and resized and then a bunch of new blocks and here is the remake of the remake!

Quilt Bee

Quilt Bee– a new BOM pattern that will be debuted at Alison’s shop starting in January. I won’t be releasing the pattern anywhere else until Quilt Market in May, but if you to make the quilt, get in touch with Alison to participate in her Saturday Sampler. It’s a work in progress but I am really excited to see how it goes.

I will have a new online class series launching, hopefully, in January on The Quilting Company website. I will keep you posted on it’s go live date!

And in March I will be teaching at the AQS show in Lancaster, including doing a demo and a lecture. How cool is that?

I am so excited to share the patterns and designs with all of you in class.

I am also visiting with a bunch of guilds next year- mainly in the Colorado area so I hope to see some of you local quilters there. To see where I will be, go to the calendar.  And if you want to get in touch, I am happy to travel to your guild to do a lecture and class. I love doing that!

Plus I have some ideas for new projects for the blog in 2018. My goal is to post things to help you! I am still working these out but I will keep you posted as we go along. Here is the question for you- I am planning some posts on different techniques.

Any technique you want me to blog about? Please leave a comment below.

Happy New Year friends. Thank you for spending part of your 2017 with me. I know there are a lot of quilt sites to visit; I am honored when you come here.

happy quilting!
